Family Vacation 2013

This year our family vacation revolved around Ryley's Step 2 Exam.  We had to go to LA for him to take it, so we figured we might as well turn lemons into lemonade and enjoy ourselves.  It was a great trip, and now we are attempting to readjust to normal life. :)

We started out the trip in Ely, where we spent a few days with family.

Then we started the long trip to LA... having no idea how long the trip would actually take.  It went pretty smoothly from Ely to Vegas, where we stopped to have some lunch and take the kids to M&M world.  Ryley had never been to Vegas before, so we took some time to tour the strip.

After getting the wiggles out we began the last leg of our trip to LA.  Two miles outside of Vegas we hit stand still traffic.  What we thought would be a 4 hour car ride turned into 9 hour car ride.  Apparently everyone travels from CA to Vegas on the weekends and then drives back Sunday night.  Who knew?  Needless to say, it was a very long day.

This is about as fast as we went....

Logan had to pee about every hour.  We were going 5 mph, in the middle lane of traffic, so I helped him pee in a cup.  Multiple times.  Glad we had so many cups in our car!  The line I am pointing to is the amount he peed each time.  That little bladder can hold a lot of liquid!

Finally, we arrived at our hotel.  The next day we spent relaxing at the beach, while Daddy studied on and off for his exam the next day.

We love the beach! The kids loved playing in the sand, and both were brave and went in the water.  Mia loved playing with the sand toys, and Logan's favorite part was digging up the little sea creatures that would disappear into the sand just as the tide went back out into the ocean.  Ryley liked to freak us all out by swimming out into the ocean and then riding the waves back in.  :)

The next day was Ryley's big exam.  He did great!  At least, I'm sure he did.  The kids and I had a lazy day catching up on sleep and hanging out at the pool.

Logan announced that those leaves were his wings, and flew around the pool to the beat of the music that was playing there for quite some time.

After Ry finished his test we celebrated by getting a bucket of chicken and heading back to the beach.  It was the perfect ending to the day.

The next day we woke up early and headed to ..... DISNEYLAND!!!
It was my first time, and I absolutely loved watching the looks on our kids' faces!
Ryley was like a big kid too, riding all the rides, and running around with Logan. :)

Mia loved Winnie the Pooh!

We had to wait in line forever to meet this guy... but it was worth it!  Logan loved him!

Logan will tell anyone who will listen all about how Minnie kissed him!

Ryley reliving his childhood memories

Cute little minnie. :)

Logan by his rocket ship ride

Astroblasters!  Logan's favorite ride by far.

Waiting in line to ride the Finding Nemo Submarine Ride

Our little monkey at Goofy's playground

Strong man at Toon Town

The Sword in the Stone!

Mia's favorite ride... Winnie the Pooh

Our knight defending his castle

The Soundsational Parade...

Logan got lots of attention during the parade.  All of the princesses blew kisses to him, and a pirate fought with him!  Peter Pan ran over and told him he was glad he was so good with a sword, and then saved Logan from the naughty pirate.  Needless to day, my little boy was in heaven.

Daddy and Logan riding the tea cups, spinning them as fast as they could.  I got dizzy just watching them.

Logan wasn't the only one enjoying this ride. :)

Sleeping Beauty's castle!

Our tuckered out kids.

Mia loved her new Eyore!

After Disneyland we packed up and headed back to Ely.  The ride there was (thankfully) uneventful.  We recovered from our adventures in Ely for a couple days, and then headed home.  All in all, it was a wonderful vacation, and I am going to have trouble readjusting to life back at home!

Our Mia is One!

Our beautiful little lady turned one!
She had a wonderful day full of balloons, baths, swimming, sand and family.

Mia loves:
  • to be snuggled.  She is independent and will venture off to play, but always comes back to give me a hug.
  • to give kisses!  Sweetest thing ever.
  • to play with her big brother... she follows him everywhere!
  • to take baths.  She is such a little fish!
  • to crawl...as fast as she can...away from mommy!
  • her daddy!  Every time he walks into a room, she smiles and says. "Hi, dad."
  • to scream!  She thinks it is hilarious to scream in her little high pitched way, and then looks around to see who heard her.
  • to read stories.
  • popsicles!
  • berries.  All types of berries.
  • fishies.  She makes her little fishy mouth whenever she sees one.
  • birdies!  Every time she spots one she frantically begins saying, "tweet, tweet!"
  • babble, laugh, and point at things and say, "that, that!"
  • to wrestle!  She loves when her daddy rolls her around, and even though it scares her mommy, she loves to wrestle with her big brother.
  • back massages.

Mia's stats:

Two teeth
Can walk up to 7 steps at a time
18.07 lbs (23rd percentile)
28.7 inches tall (30th percentile)

Mia had a sunshine and lemonade first birthday party.  The way cute lemonade stand was made by her aunt Cammi, and her Grandpa & Grandma Poulsen.

She wasn't quite sure what to do with the cake at first, but soon got the hang of it.

Mia's big brother and her uncle were very big helpers when it came to opening presents.

Mia still has a hard time with milk, so she got frozen yogurt.

Tea parties!  I'm so, so excited for tea parties!

Daddy, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa Poulsen trying to figure out how to fold up her new tent. :)
(Mommy figured it out, by the way)

Love this little one.

4th of July

Happy 4th of July!

We celebrated Independence Day in Ely with family.  It was so much fun, and there was so much good food!!  It was great being able to see everyone, and nice to get away from the chaotic city scene.

One year ago, I was in early labor with this pretty little lady. :)
