Christmas Break

So.... I am way behind in posting... :)

Happy New Year!

Christmas Break for us consisted of driving to Boise, driving to Sandy, OR, driving to Ely, and driving back home.  The driving part I could have done without, but it was so wonderful to be able to see family!  We are so blessed to have such amazing families who so thoroughly spoiled us.   

Logan was actually pretty good in the car.  He entertained himself with stickers, movies,  silly putty, and stories.    However, I think we completely traumatized him with the 32 hour trip, because he now throws a massive fit every time we go near the car.  :)

Unfortunately, this wonderful sight only happened for a total of 20 minutes out of approximately 32 hours of driving...

In Oregon, Ry's parents took us to OMSI to see Body Worlds,  which was amazing.   I wish my anatomy classes would have had some of those dissections!   Logan really liked the rest of OMSI....

While in Oregon we got to meet our new niece.. Mable!  She is such a sweetheart, and Logan absolutely loved helping out with her.  He affectionately refers to her as "Baby Nabel" :)

On our way to Ely from Oregon we took a break at a hotel and splurged a little bit to get a jacuzzi in our room.  Logan absolutely loved the bubbles that it made!

On Christmas morning Logan woke up with a high fever (he caught my cold), but Tylenol fixed him up pretty quick. :)

Logan's present from Santa... a jumpolene.  He loves this thing so much, and I am still trying to figure out where to put this massive thing.  Right now it is taking over Ry's study area. 

While in Ely we chopped lots of wood for Great Grandpa Poulsen.  Logan was a big helper. :)

We also headed out to cave lake to roast marshmallows.

A quick update with some pictures, because Logan is just that cute... :)

While Ryley and I were busy talking to our families on Sunday, Logan filled our water bottles up with dirt from our house plants and dumped them out on the TV stand.  Ryley actually watched him do it.... and didn't stop him.  Oh boys.

Logan was so much fun this year.  He wanted to see every color of lights up close, and ran to every nativity.  He loved watching the big, narrated nativity, and sang along with the angels. :)  He sings along with everything now, even if he doesn't know the words, and he will read stories along with us, mumbling the words if he doesn't know them.  But he memorizes books after reading them once, so usually he knows the words. :)

Thanksgiving and December

I've decided that the holidays are much more fun when you have a two year old.  Watching Logan's eyes light up with every tradition we begin fills me with joy, and every day I realize more and more how blessed I am to have my sweet husband and silly little man.  Here is some of what we have been up to...

For Thanksgiving we headed to Ely and gained a good amount of weight on all the wonderful food there!  And, following tradition, we cut down our tree there.  I love the smell of pine so much that I'm pretty sure I'm completely against fake trees.

It was so warm in Ely over Thanksgiving!  Logan and Aydan spent many hours wearing each other out in my parent's backyard.

Ok, I know this isn't censored, but this picture just kills me.  Logan is now in a stage where he refuses to wear clothes...  apparently stickers don't bother him though. :)

Logan is also obsessed with caterpillars.  He make us wrap him up like this (in his cocoon) and then he unwraps the blanket and flaps his "beautiful butterfly" wings. :)

And, like a good son, he regularly cheers for BYU. Even when we are not watching a game.

Logan did much better with Santa this year.  He stayed on his lap a whole30 seconds before escaping.  Santa was really great, and let Logan play with all the cool things on his suit to try and get him to talk to him. This year Logan asked Santa for a jumpolene. :)

Our frozen faces. :)  Just look at how handsome my husband is.  I am so glad that he was able to come with us, seeing as how it is his crazy-medical-school-finals week. 

Logan's favorite zoo light.  He regularly come up to me and tells me, "Mom, I'm a crocodile!"  He also transforms into a Back-son, Pirate, Lion, Dragon, and Vampire throughout the day.

So, this is a picture from when Ry and I ran our half marathon in August.  I keep forgetting to post this picture, and since this blog doubles as a family journal for us, I'm posting it while it's on my mind. :)

Logan the Lion

I have been looking forward to October for months.  Our little family has so many memories associated with this month, from Ry's and my first date to the birth of our little boy.  Fall also happens to be my favorite season.  And I like Halloween. :)  And now its over.  October is over!  I am convinced that the older I get, the faster time goes by.  Anyway, here is how our Halloween went...  

I knew what Logan was going to be for Halloween months before it actually happened. :)   This is because Logan actually transforms into a lion for a large majority of every day.  I haven't needed a gym for a while because most of my day is spent running away from the growling, biting little lion.  The rest of my day is spent being the "mommy lion" that I am constantly asked to be.  Which also consists of lots of exercise.  :)

Logan somehow managed to go trick or treating 3 separate times.  We have so. much. candy.   Here he is at Boo at the Zoo with his cute little buddy Benji.  They are munching on Doritos, :)

So stinking cute. :)  Logan has always liked to chase Benji around, and it was pretty fun watching the giggling little lion terrorize the giggling little monkey. :)

Every time Logan would catch a glimpse of himself in the mirror he would start growling.  The credit for this way cute costume goes to my amazing mom, who made it years ago for my little sister.  Yeah for a super easy, free, and way cute costume!  Thanks mom!  

We also went trick or treating at our Foothill Shopping Center, where just about every store was decorated and giving out candy.  Later that night we went trick or treating in our neighborhood.  JACKPOT.  Almost every single house was giving out FULL SIZED CANDY BARS!!! We couldn't believe it.  And we knew everyone, because they are all in our ward, so they would usually give Ry and I candy too.  Logan would usually get double, because he was such a cute little lion. :)  I don't know that I've ever seen so many big candy bars in my life.  Which I promptly finished off while watching Ry play two old man flag football games that night.  Which are WAY too intense for flag football... and way too freezing and went way too late.  I'm talking ejections and hospital visits, 35 degrees, and 11pm.  But it was way fun cheering on my cute husband and hearing Logan yell, "Go daddy!  Touchdown!"  And by the way, the Gangrene Gang ( 2nd year med students) won the U of U flag football championship.  Way to go!  ;)

Here is part of our Halloween dinner... Mummy dogs, and noodles with mold sauce (alfredo sauce dyed green) .  We had monster blood (cranberry grape juice) too, but it didn't make it into the picture.  I really wanted to make some jello worms, but ran out of time.  All this food... and actually about 90% of all our recipes, comes from the amazing site Melskitchencafe.com.  So yummy!  And that candy is just from ONE of our trick or treating outings....

Right now our little family is cuddling in our warm living room, munching on super yummy homemade Autumn Minestrone Soup (also from Mels), and watching the football game between LSU and Alabama (since our Cougars don't play this weekend).  We've got chocolate ice cream in the freezer, and I'm pretty sure life doesn't get much sweeter than this, even with the minor breakdowns due to a toddler in the midst of potty training.  Actually, especially with.  :) We are truly blessed.
